Birthday, Eclipse, Viral Worms and Blackouts

So it is or was my birthday July 5, I really wanted to go to the beach but .....traffic through the 5 and 580 by my home made that a dream not to be. I did invite several people to join us and they showed up and we were able to have a great day, nothing huge, nothing planned in fact, just a nice day with friends.

July 3, 2010, laptop acting up, keeps saying I have an infection and I must get a new Anti-virus... seems the anti-virus is the trojan horse that puts itself in your drivers and basically as you get online it will shut off your access. Then it calls up nasty porn (Not the good stuff mind you ;0p ) and Ciallis, and the little blue pill. SO when you go to open your machine? You have a history of going to several porn sites and other sites - this puts the "Mal" in malware. Hubby took most of the 3rd to the 5th getting this crap cleaned up and clearing my machine and rebuilding it with Windows 7.

So I did not have computer usage for most of the weekend which was torture, I really had no idea how much I depended on this venue for connection to the outside world.

Eclipse, so I tried to see it 29th/30th of June but a friend chose not to go so then I wanted to go July 1st because I was off of work, Hubby asked if he could see it but wanted to see the 2nd movie before he saw the 3rd one. This meant I could not see it until July 4th because we could not find it in the stores to rent and so I bullied him into renting from iTunes and watching it via his brand new Apple Laptop. July 4th the heat was pretty awful and so we cooked and got ready to join my Son's Girlfriend's Family at a nearby park.

So early July 5th, we go up to the Movies...and they have a blackout! So off we went to the Store to pick up eggs and ice (which no one had) and then home to make home made ice cream before people showed up.

Poeple left about 8ish and I finally got the chance to watch the movie at 9:15pm. I really enjoyed it, it was fun and told some of background within the Cullens. There could have been more in my thought back in #2 New Moon, but some is better than nothing.

No Garb making, I have to finish the tunics and 2 smocks for friends then I can begin to do something fun for myself.

The Kirtle~ Mock Up for Bodice

I can tell you I am going to use my Margo's Pattern for the Kirtle's bodice and then I am going to cut the skirting into 6 panels because my waist is 45 inches (I know I am working on that) I am going to make sure I have some Box pleat space so I am going to to the panels at 10" at one side and 44" at the other side. This will give me 60" around my waist to box pleats in and 264" at the bottom of the skirt.

I am also going to try an Elizabethan technique I can use on my sewing machine, I am going to use a French seam on this because linen can fray like the dickens. I am using linen both to line and outer fabric, so I think the French seam will hold up over time.

So first I need to get my bodice Toile fitted, I am hoping my Mom can help me with this later today.

I am using I think 2 inner of cotton duck, and then making the boning within these and then adding the linen outer and inner. Then ick! Making lacing holes, my least favorite thing, but I do like them better than grommets.

So there is my next couple of days, I hope to get it down quickly

Musings on English Fitted Gowns

So I have several patterns I could use to make the English Fitted Gown. I own the Tudor Tailor Book but I also have the new pattern from them to make the Women's Gown. I also have Reconstructing History's version as well. I have my Margo's Bodice and Doublet that I could in fact create my gown from as well

I had gotten my Burnt Orange Linen the wrong name for Elizabethan Color what I have is Orange-Tawney. So I am happier with this added to my Murrey Linen. This will be a washable outfit, and it will have sleeves for the Kirtle that will be detachable to make it wearable in the HOT climate of Northern California. I have issues with the heat and I just can't deal with the wools, even the summer weight ones that I have tried and had to take them off in order to deal with said heat. I doff my hat to those of you who live in humid climates I would be sick, and could not wear my beloved Elizabethans due to the weather constraints.

It looks like I will be needing a new Smock as well, and I will be making the Faux ruff that the ladies around their necks!

More later!

Arm Injury and New Obsession English Fitted Gown

Hello All!

I had to place the Florentine of wonder on hold. I was injured 3/31/2010 at work and now I know I pulled my shoulder out of socket and tore ligaments, I have been waiting for surgery now for 2 months while going through the bureaucracy. The last hurdle is I am waiting for the approval for the surgery, from my Company's insurance carrier.

In April, I worked a deal to upgrade my Designer SE for the Diamond, so I am now a proud owner of a machine I can't spend more than 20 minutes at a time...la sigh.

Gianetta's Laurelling was lovely while a very hot day? It cooled off very nicely. I made German Sausage for the first time and we had a great time making it and it tasted really good. I also made Pork meatballs, so tasty. I was surprised to see that Gianetta was done up in German Garb, instead of her typical Italians. But she did look good and it was an awesome day and awesome experience!

So I need more to think about, because well I have purchased some awesome linens, and I have some more coming for $3.00 a yard! YEAH me and some silk as well, they are sending me samples I hope to get soon they are Dupioni and for $5.00 per yard an awesome thing indeed.

So to my English Fitted Gown: To the Research!

This is the drawing I think most people think of when looking for the English Fitted Gown.

There are other examples of the Fitted Gown and this lady has an great one.

Queen Sophie in a lovely colorful Fitted Gown

So I was going to use this lovely purple linen, but alas after I made my friend his Tunic, there was not but 2.5 yards left so it is now going to be a Gothic Fitted Gown Bi Colored, with the Grey linen.

However I have tons of linen, here are the pieces I have that I will be making the EFG out of!

This also has trim I was thinking of working with.

SO now to the COST BREAKDOWN:

Linen for Gown in Murrey 7 yards @ $ 3.50 $ 24.00
Lining for Gown in Linen 4 yards @ $ 4.00 $ 16.00
Linen for the Kirtle in Tawney 7 yards @ $ 3.50 $ 24.00
Lining in Linen for Kirtle 4 yards @ $ 4.00 $ 16.00
Cotton Duck for Bodice both 3 yards @ $ 2.50 $ 7.50
Buttons 20 @ $ .10 $ 2.00
Trim 5 yards @ $ .50 $ 2.50
Total= $ 92.00

Not to shabby eh?

April 6, 2010~ Research

I am doing some research, so I love this gown! I went to Fabric Store and they have a lovely green and orange in linen.

Now here? I could use some fabric I already own to make this gown. I love how it looks it reminds me of the Pisa Gown.

So this could be a portrait of what we think is the Pisa Gown! I have Eleanor's Burial Gown on this as well and below is the actual gown from Pisa.

So this is the Pisa Gown I am very into this because I want to use this from my stash of which I have quite a bit, I don't think I could sew all of what I have currently have 8 yards of purple taffeta, and I have 10 yards of white damask so I could dye it to do anything with it and I have trim, so I am really leaning towards the Pisa Gown.

Hello,

My friend Gianetta, has been asked to join the illustrious group in the SCA, known and acknowledged for doing great skill, for her it is her cooking and sewing and autocratting skills which she is so deserving!!

Decisions, Choices and Research

On the Yahoo Group: Elizabethan Garb, a competition has been sent out from August 15th to end December 15th.

This was set up to hopefully give those of us who need help getting ready to create our 12th Night Glorious Garb. Now I have something in mind, I have the fabrics, so I am involved in what sort of gown I want to make for 12th Night.

Hmm

So now onto figuring out what exactly I want to create for this competition!
